The day has finally arrived when Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas will become Man and Wife by saying ‘I Do’ in a Christian wedding tradition which will be followed by a Punjabi wedding the next day. On one hand where the Christian wedding will take place today, the Punjabi wedding will take place tomorrow.
We all are aware of the fact that Christian and Punjabi weddings are poles apart. While Christian weddings are short and sweet, Punjabi weddings are known to be loud and extravagant. So on the eve of Priyanka and Nick wedding, let us tell you the exact rituals which will be performed, the outfit which will be worn by the bride and groom and the food which will be served in the two-day marriage ceremony.

Wedding day ritual
Unlike Punjabi, Christian weddings are simple. The bride comes to church in the car which is sent by her groom. Once the bride, that is, Priyanka reaches the church and steps out of the car, she will receive a bouquet of flowers and a face kiss from the best man
While it’s the father of the bride who goes with her as she walks hand in hand up to the altar, in Priyanka’s case as her father has passed away, it will have to be seen who will do the rituals.
The wedding mass, one of the mandatory Catholic Christian wedding rituals, begins with the priest reciting hymns as attendees congregate and seek blessings for the new couple. Priyanka Nick will then exchange rings after which the duo will signs the marriage register legalising their wedding in accordance with the law, which will be followed by their first kiss as Man and Wife.
Agwaani and Milni is a ritual where the groom arrives on his horse, who is welcomed by the bride’s family with his mother-in-law doing Arti which is followed by Varmala.
During Madhuperk, Priyanka would first give Nick a small bowl of water. He will sprinkle some water first on his feet, then his body and eventually drink the rest. Nick will then be given a sherbet called madhuperk, made of clarified butter or ghee, curd, honey and some essence to drink. He will take it and sprinkle some in all directions before slowly sipping on it.
Then Kanyadan takes place where the father of the bride hands over the bride to the groom and entreats him to take very good care of her. Again, it remains to be seen who Priyanka will choose in place of her late father. Priyanka and Nick will then take the Saat Pheras chanting their respective vows.
Lajahom will see Priyanka’s brother Siddharth puts the rice flakes in the cup and the couple will offer it to the Fire God and seek his blessings. Lajahom is repeated three times.
Nick will then apply Sindoor on Priyanka’s forehead. And then Priyanka’s sister Parineeti and Manara will demand a hefty amount from Jiju Nick in order to give his wedding shoes back
Priyanka will be wearing a white wedding gown by Ralph and Russo creation. The clean and white linen illustrates the bride’s clean heart and is also a symbol of the righteousness. She will be also sporting a Bridal Veil which indicates the bride’s modesty. The removal of the veil is an indication that the couple now have a complete access to one other as they begin their new life.
Nick will mostly be sporting a formal suit. While most Christian groom sports a black color suit, the groom can wear formal suit of any color as per his choice.
Punjabi brides usually wear a lehenga with heavy embroiled Chunari. Although Red is considered to be auspicious, Punjabi brides are known to experiment with the colour of their lehengs. Then sister-in-law Sophie Turner will tie Kalire to Priyanka’s wrists. Kalire are gold or silver ornaments that are dome shaped with multiple danglers attached to them.
Nick will be wearing a traditional set of Kurta Pajama or Sherwani to the wedding. While off-white or cream is the traditional colour, the groom, like bride, can wear any coloured suit on his D-day. Nick can be seen wearing a headdress with dangling strands of either flowers or decorative ribbons and even strings of pearls that cover his face. This special headdress is known as Sehra. The top part of the Sehra is attached around the groom’s forehead and tied behind his head.

Dal Makahani, Sarson Da Saag, Pindi Chole, Missi Roti, Andoori Chicken, Macchli Amritsari, Jaleby Rabri are some of the mouth-smacking dishes which you will find at Priyanka Nick’s Punjabi wedding. Of course, Lassi will be a must on their wedding menu.
Post wedding Ritual
Once the wedding takes place, Priyanka and Nick will enter the reception, where they will be showered with confetti as a welcome tradition. The couple will then cut the wedding cake and feed a bite to each other representing the care and affection towards one another. The toastmaster will then propose a toast in honour of Priyanka and Nick. The couple will then have their first dance as Man and Wife. After the guests join them on the dance floor, there is also a grand dinner.
After marriage, Priyanka will have a vidaai where the actress will bids a tearful goodbye to her family and throw handful of rice over her shoulders in her family’s direction. The post wedding ritual will also have Pag Phera the bride returns to her parent’s home with her husband. The parents will welcome their daughter and son-in-law with a grand lunch.
