Actor Tanuj Virwani chats with Manasi Y Mastakar about his favourite cities, travel bucket list and more…
Fave vacation places
Gold Coast Australia, Zakopane Poland and Berlin Germany would be my three most favourite places. In India I like Manali and Ooty a lot. For a quick getaway there is always Lonavala.
Research is a must
I do a lot of research, I ask people who may have visited those places and discuss how their experience was. YouTube travelogues are also very informative as you can see if the place suits you or not. Research is important as you are spending a lot of time and money and you want the overall experience to be worth it.
Sea or mountains?
I am a total mountain person, perhaps, because I have lived by the sea all my life…so it doesn’t fascinate me as much.
Vacaying with the gang
I have never travelled all by myself, something I wish to do at some point. I love travelling with Mom and Dad and also with friends, of course, the destination choices and things we would do would be wildly different. As long as everyone gets along everything else is secondary!
We all live in our little bubbles that we call our lives. Travelling broadens our horizon and shows us that there is so much out there that we don’t even know about. It is food for the soul and super therapeutic considering the fast life of an actor in a city like Mumbai.
Yes I did try that recently for a few days and it worked very well. Sometimes, I feel we have all become slaves to technology and it is important to disconnect in order to reconnect. I would recommend it to everyone.
Best and the worst
Best place for me on this planet would have to be Gold Coast, Australia…just the vibe of the place, the people, the energy, the food, the nightlife…I could just go on and on as it was absolutely fabulous. Worst place I have visited would have to be Kutaisi in Georgia. I was there for a shoot recently and though the rest of the country is nice this place was depressing and dreary as hell. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
Dos and don’ts
Please research, but don’t overdo it as you will feel you have seen it all before actually seeing anything. Make sure you carry identification, medical kit and other essentials. If you are going to a country where there is a language barrier please make prior provisions so it is not a hurdle. And always make sure your passport and money is safe…you don’t want to be stranded in another country without important documents.
Tips and tricks
I can never sleep on a flight so I end up watching a lot of movies and having a couple of drinks to pass time. Flying within Asia and even Europe is still manageable, but America and Australia the jet lag can be an absolute killer. There is no way of escaping it. Don’t sleep and you will feel like a zombie. Sleep too much and you will be wide awake in a different time zone when you wake up!
Travel bucket list
Northern Lights, South America, African Safari and the Alaskan cruise are all on my bucket list for sure.
