The multi-talented Merchant brothers Salim and Sulaiman rocked the historic London venue Hammersmith Apollo last night as part of their first UK tour.
Brilliant vocalists Shadab Faridi, Shraddah Pandit and Benny Dayal featured alongside the duo, who thrilled the audience with their incredible catalogue of songs from their hit Bollywood films.
Salim-Sulaiman who have worked on a number of Yash Raj film musical scores, took to the stage with hits such as Thug Le from Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and party starter Ainvayi Ainvayi from Band Baja Baaraat. The ultimate love song Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi had the audience swaying in their seats whilst Chance Pe Dance had everyone on their feet. Noteworthy performances also included a rendition of O Re Piya and an acoustic style version of Ishq Hua from Aajah Nachle. The duo who were also responsible the soundtrack of Dharma Movies Kurbaan also showcased the rock anthem Kurbaan Hua and the melodic Ali Mula.
A touching jazz tribute to the late legends Jagjit Singh, Medhi Hassan, Madan Mohan, Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand was an unexpected delight which had the audience reminiscing the brilliance
of the yesteryear artists.
The highlight of the night was watching the funky Benny Dayal wowing Hammersmith with his Michael Jackson moves whilst dazzling everyone with a surprising tribute of Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough, which went down a storm.
The artists ended on an inevitable high with the ensemble belting out Chak De India with a rapturous standing ovation.
Salim, Sulaiman, Shadab, Benny, Shraddah with the fantastic Urban Soul Orchestra and percussion extraordinaires, literally brought the house down with phenomenal performances, awesome stage presence and powerful voices to ensure an unforgettable night.
Look out for the Merchant brothers who have worked on the soundtrack for the highly anticipated Kareena Kapoor starrer Heroine, releasing this September.
