DB: We have to ask, what’s the inspiration behind the name ‘Shide Boss’?
Shide Boss: My real name is Shide and my nick name was always “Boss”. There are many reasons behind my nick name, the main one being I always work at getting whatever I desire from life.
So I put both names together and got “Shide Boss”
DB: What’s life been like since winning the ‘Hollyoaks unsigned’ competition?
Shide Boss:Life has been great since winning the competition, I had a lot of interest from record labels and management companies which lead to me singing with Sony. Winning that competition means a lot to me.
DB: ‘Ni Sohniye’ has received an amazing response from the public and also on Youtube – how did the song come about?
Shide Boss:I am overwhelmed with the response I am receiving from “Ni Sohniye”. It has over a quarter of a million views in just 3 months. “Ni Sohniye” was an idea I had for a long time, I wanted to sing punjabi and english on a track and see how they worked together. I recorded the track with producer Marcus James and we were so happy with it that we wanted it to be the first song people heard of mine.

DB: Tell us bout your upcoming album?
Shide Boss:There isn’t an album coming yet, I am currently working on a mixtape for the end of the year/beginning of next year. I am enjoying working on the mixtape as I am not sticking to my rules and just making music that I love, I can’t wait for people to hear this side of me. I have a 6-track EP ‘Rainbow’ which is out right now so people can check that out.
DB: Are you very involved in the creative process e.g. writing, producing etc?
Shide Boss:I am very involved in creating the song from scratch with the producers I work with. I have written every song I have recorded so far, most songs I have written have been of my own or friends experiences, working with talented producers like Marcus James just makes it easy.
DB: Which artists do you admire that are currently on the scene?
Shide Boss:Right now I am feeling artists like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Frank Ocean.

DB: What was it like performing at the London Mela this year?
Shide Boss: It was great performing at the London mela. It was my first performance since being signed. It was crazy seeing the fans singing the words to “Ni Sohniye”. It was surreal.
DB: What’s been the highlight of the year for you so far?
Shide Boss: I think the highlight of the year so far is gaining the amount of fans and supporters I have in such a short time, its only been 3 months.
DB: Any special message for your fans??
Shide Boss:I would just like to say thanks for liking the music I’m making. Stay by my side and continue to spread my name. You are going to hear so, so much more from me that will make you be proud of being a fan of mine.
