The new leading man of Bollywood and renowned musical artist, Ali Zafar, dazzled fans and audiences at the UK’s biggest Bollywood hotspot, Cineworld Feltham on Saturday 23rd March. The industry’s hottest new property wowed the adoring crowds, posed for snaps, signed autographs and introduced his upcoming film release, ‘Chashme Baddoor’.
Earlier in the day, Ali interacted with media at a press conference that took place at Montcalm Marble Arch, hosted by Sunil Shah, Chairman, Tip Top Entertainment – the film’s UK distributor – and Artist Manager, Naila Mughal. The multi-talented artist charmed attendees with his vivacious manner, charismatic personality and the odd rendition of one of his personal favourites from the film soundtrack, "Dhichkyaoon Dhoom Dhoom."
Speaking at the press conference, Ali Zafar said, "Because of my art background and both my parents being professors, art and literature was in our house so I got to read a lot. When I read a script, I feel it is the most important thing, because ultimately that’s what’s going to be transferred onto the screen. I’ve been lucky in choosing my projects.”
"Working with David Dhawan was more fun than I was told it would be. A friend of mine said ‘You must work with David Dhawan, he is a wonderful director to work with and you will have a great time.’ It turned out to be not a great time but a fabulous time because he’s so much fun on set. He gets so excited right from early morning until dawn. That’s when he packs up and that’s the really good thing about him. ..and he’s very fast. The entire team were great to work with and so was he. ‘Chashme Badoor’ relates to a woman’s beauty. It means, may the evil away be kept away. The film is a remake of the 1981 film of the same name."
Sunil Shah, Chairman, Tip Top Entertainment said, "Tip Top Entertainment is extremely excited to be presenting the film in the UK, working alongside Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. I have just returned from Mumbai myself, and I can tell you, the buzz around the film is tremendous. I hope you all share the same sentiment when the film opens in the UK."
‘Chashme Baddoor’ is a fresh re-working of one of 80’s Hindi cinema’s most delightful screen gems, presenting a riotous comedy that is sure to engage a new generation of fans as well as charming older audiences, as it pays homage to one of the most nostalgic and defining genres and films of Indian cinema over the decades.
Featuring the bright young things of Bollywood’s next generation of acting talent, ‘Chashme Baddoor’ stars Ali Zafar alongside former model and emerging starlet, Taapsee Pannu, and rising stars Siddharth and Divyendu Sharma. Joining the new generation on screen is a wealth of seasoned veterans including Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Anupam Kher and Lilette Dubey.
‘Chashme Baddoor’ has been re-written by the lauded director of the original version, Sai Paranjpye, with David Dhawan crafting another comedy gem with his inimitable directorial prowess. Set against a breezy Goa backdrop, the film is perfectly complemented by an infectious, upbeat musical score courtesy of composing duo Sajid Wajid, with Ali Zafar lending his hypnotising vocals to the sing-out-loud soundtrack.
Chashme Baddoor releases in the UK on 5th April, presented by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Tip Top Entertainment.
