Montreal, Canada—After the success of “Turn the Music Up” and the premiere of “One Voice” at the Reel World Film Festival in 2009, The Bilz & Kashif are back with “He’s Nothing But a Loser.” The promotional track, available for free download only on Twitter, is just a taste of what fans can expect when the trio release their sophomore album, Breaking Barriers, later this summer.
The promo track has gotten 22,000 downloads already and has charted on every major international urban blog. The record marries a popular Soulja Boy song, “Kiss Me Thru the Phone,” with the lyrics and smooth voice of Kashif. Rappers Nivla and Drega are also featured.
“We were just jamming in Cali while touring the West Coast,” says DJ Vicious, “and we heard Soulja Boy’s single playing on the radio. At the same time, Kashif was improvising one of his own tracks on the beat. I told him, ‘Let’s do it, let’s put that track out for free.’”
The Bilz & Kashif have been busy since their debut release, The Bilz Album, in 2006. They’ve recently signed a ringtone deal with Jamster, and will make their Hollywood music debut with a track in Catherine Zeta-Jones’ The Rebound.
“We’re ready to take this industry by storm.,” says Kashif. “Being able to perform with a live band brings us to another level of artistry—it’s what being an artist is all about.”
Their new album, Breaking Barriers, is set to release later this summer. The 14-track electro-pop album will showcase the trio’s talents—Kashif singing in English, Master D in Hindi and Punjabi—and have cameos from artists including platinum-selling Houston rapper Lil’ Flip.
